Education Development Support Program (EDSPRO)

The Education Development Support Program (EDSPRO) is operated with the fund raised by SA from interested Nepalese people, foreign individual and like- minded organizations. Interested organizations can also make various initiatives to generate the fund for this program. EDSPRO fund is used for purchasing school uniform, stationery, and supplementary text books to the needy children who are being deprived of getting quality education due to their poor economic condition.

 

SA piloted this program from 1999-2003 at Golmatar village of Ramechhap district. A total of 82 Children in Golmatar were benefited from stationary, uniform and textbooks for four years through which they were able to attend the school with self-esteem and high level of motivation towards their education. It was further expanded in Khalechaur –7, Gaindakot VDC of Nawalparasi district covering 36 children particularly focusing to the disadvantaged and marginalized communities.  The community is expected to give the continuation of the program generating the fund from the local level. In Golmatar, the parents of these children began saving fund by their own initiation for their children’s education. Similarly, the EDSP had been continued in Khalechaur generating fund from the local level even after termination of SA’s funding after one year. At present, SA is providing its supports to two schools in Kathmandu: Ram Janaki school, at Nayapati village development committee and Ishori Lower Secondary School at Sundarijal village development Committee.

 

Objectives

  • Fulfill rights and enhance access of the children from the excluded and poverty-stricken community to better opportunity for Education with dignity.
  • Facilitate raising educational fund at local level.
  • Enhance capacity of community and concerned agencies in coordination and linkage with service providers and other likeminded agencies.

 

Implementing Process

Interested groups/ individuals/ organizations can submit application along with the proposal to support EDSPRO for four-year period. The plan can be prepared within the frame of operational strategy of the EDSPRO which should include operational plan and sustainability plan. SA board will make final decision on the proposals within three weeks of its receipt. One can join this program by making a small effort.

 

  • Save a bit more than Rs. 2 per day (for one Child) in Nepal.
  • Save a bit more than $ 0.25 per day (Aboard) for 10 Children.
  • Make commitment during your/spouse’s birthday
  • Give birth day gift to your kids or parents
  • Donate on important occasions such as Wedding Anniversary, Dashain and Diawali.
  • On the occasion of memorial days (Shradda) of your father, mother, grandfather/mother, friends and other relatives.

Third Party Monitoring in Forestry Sector in Mainstreaming Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI)

SAMUHIK ABHIYAN is implementing Third Party Monitoring in forestry sector in Mainstreaming Gender Equity and Social Inclusion in three districts (Okhaldhunga, Khotang and Ramechhap) from February 2014 to April 2015. The overarching goal of the monitoring is to improve governance in the forest group to promote and mainstreaming Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) dimensions in forestry sector through third party monitoring. This project has been implementing in close coordination with Multi-Stakeholder Forestry Programme (MSFP).

 

Output of the project

1.1       Developed and tested a third party monitoring tools which can be replicated to other areas

1.2       Vigilance groups formed and capacitated for the third party monitoring

2.1       Established a base-line data of GESI to be measured outputs of the project at the end of the project.

2.2       Decreased identified gap on GESI mainstreaming of the MSFP, CFUGs  other stakeholders

3.1       Increased awareness of local community, local media, users from GESI perspective

3.2       Implemented GESI plan and policy

 

Outcomes

  • Established third party monitoring system in forestry sector through Vigilance Groups

Capacity Building and Training of Non-Government Implementing Agencies

SA has been implementing Capacity Building and Training of Non-Government Implementing Agencies for 23 districts from March 2014 to March 2016, financed by Multi -stakeholder Forest Program. This program has been conducting in full-fledge in 23 districts in coordination with District Forest Offices (DFO) and Non-Government Implementing Agencies. The main objective of this program is to identify capacity building needs of MSFP’S Non-Government Implementing Agencies and their local partners and make them able to deliver training & other capacity building activities for effective implementation of the Multi-stakeholder Forest Program.

Enhancing Effectiveness of Emergency Peace Support Project (EPSP) through Increased Citizen Participation Under the Citizen Actions For Results, Transparency And Accountability (CARTA) Programme (Third Party Monitoring Project).

 

SAMUHIK ABHIYAN is implementing Enhancing Effectiveness of EPSP through Increase Citizen Participation under the Citizen Actions For Results, Transparency And Accountability (CARTA) Program in eight districts (Siraha, Sankhuwasabha, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Kapilvastu, Dang, Baitadi and Darchula) in Nepal for 14 months project funded by Partnership for Transparency Fund (PTF)/ HELVATAS Nepal.

 

The Overall objective of the project is to assess the effectiveness of EPSP and enhance Rights, Transparency and Accountability through Citizen participation by 2014

 

Objectives:

  • To assess the extent of internalization[1] of roles of service providers in effectively delivering rehabilitation support to CAPs and indicate the level of understanding on benefits and supports and extent of meaningful[2] utilization of support among beneficiaries.
  • To revitalize the grievance redressing mechanism at local level and increase the familiarity of Citizens on peace support packages and empowering them in taking actions for Results, Transparency and Accountability (RTA) through community monitoring.
  • To promote Accountability among service providers on identifying the key areas of interventions/improvements

 

Expected Results:

  • Improved information delivery to recipients.
  • Service delivery and benefits are perceived in a better way and utilized for intended purpose.
  • Needs assessed and improved, enhanced communication with policy makers at the centre.
  • Lessons shared for enhanced EPSP.

 

The target groups of the project are conflict affected people, Service Providers and Local Peace Committees. The target beneficiaries of the project includes Widows, Orphans, persons injured and disabled, families of those killed, families of the disappeared, Internally Displaced Persons, and those abducted during the conflict.

District Training on Climate Change and Community-based Adaptation Planning in Nepal

SAMUHIK ABHIYAN is implementing District Training on Climate Change and Community-based Adaptation Planning in Nepal in consortium with Rupantaran Nepal and National Association of VDCs (Village Development Committee) in Nepal (NAVIN) in 31 districts, funded by ADB Nepal.

SA in consortium with Rupantaran Nepal and National Association of VDCs in Nepal (NAVIN) is implementing 10 months ADB funded project entitled “District Training on Climate Change and Community-based Adaptation Planning in Nepal”. SA will deliver trainings in 31 districts to District officers, VDCs representatives, and local leaders and civil society organizations.

Objectives
• Raise awareness of local leaders, media and civil society representative at district level on the impacts of climate change and the need for integrating adaptation into local development plans.
• Train local planners: district development officers, district line agency personnel and village representatives – on the concepts of climate change projections, impacts and methods to integrate adaptation into local development planning.
• Transfer skills to training participants in understanding and applying tolls for community-based vulnerability assessment, risk assessment and identifying priorities for adaptation.
• Enhance participants’ abilities to facilitate participatory local development and adaptation planning within the framework of Nepal’s decentralized planning process.
• Create a pool of trainers, at central and regional level, proficient in delivering the training package for future local adaptation planning initiatives.

Project outputs
Output 1: Training manual for one week district-level course on Climate Change and Community-based Approaches to Local Adaptation Planning
Output 2: Training Monitoring Plan (2 copies to ADB and 4 hard copies and an electronic copy to the Government) to be submitted within four (4) weeks after the commencement of the Services.
Progress Report 1 : Including pre and post training survey reports for each district (2 copies to ADB and 4 hard copies and an electronic copy to the Government) to be submitted within twelve (12) weeks after the commencement of the services
Progress Report 2: including pre and post training survey reports for each district ( 2 copies to ADB and 4 hard copies and an electronic copy to the Government ) to be submitted within twenty four (24) weeks after the commencement of the Services.
Progress Report 3: Including pre and post training survey reports for each district( 2 copies to ADB and 4 hard copies and an electronic copy to the Government ) to be submitted within thirty six (36) weeks after the commencement of the Services.
Output 3: Follow-up Impact Assessment Report ( 2 copies to ADB and 4 hard copies and an electronic copy to the Government) to be submitted within forty ( 40 weeks after the commencement of the Services)
Final Report: with lessons learned and recommended best practices (2 copies to ADB and 4 hard copies to the Government, and a CD containing the Final Report to ADB and the Government.

The consortium team will deliver a training of approximately one week in each district based on modules selected from the training packages that have already been developed. The main target group for training is local government officers involved in district and village development planning. The training will also include introductory sessions on climate change that would also target a larger group of participants such as local leaders, media and local NGOs to raise awareness on the need for integrating climate change adaptation into local development planning.
